H.264 Network IP Camera Overview

H.264 compression technology, also known as MPEG-4 Part 10, allows for the same quality video resolution as compared to MPEG4 or MJPEG video compression technologies but at a reduced bit rate. H.264 can also allow for higher quality video at the same bit rate of MPEG4 or MJPEG when directly compared to either video compression technology.

IP network cameras with H.264 video compression technology should be used for applications that require high quality video while requiring less bandwidth as opposed to the bandwidth requirements for MPEG4 or MJPEG video compression. IP network cameras with H.264 compression technology should also be considered for applications where low network bandwidth utilization is a priority.
