D-Link DCS-920 Overview

The D-Link DCS-920 Securicam Internet Camera is a an adequate home or small office security solution in a convenient compact form. The DCS-920 provides Wireless G network connectivity, and a fast Ethernet 10/100 port for wired connection, providing you great installation flexibility. Being wireless provides the advantage of being able to install the DCS-920 on high walls or on ceilings, where it would usually be difficult to run network cabling. If your installation calls for a wired connection, the antenna is removable, making the DCS-920 even more compact. Being small (0.5lbs) and unobtrusive allows the DCS-920 to blend well into the surroundings. This not only makes the camera less aesthetically obtrusive, but also makes it less noticeable to intruders and security threats.

The camera supports resolutions up to 640x480, captured with its CMOS image sensor. With a 1.0Lux minimum illumination rating the camera can still provide image in low-light conditions. The DCS-920 uses widely compatible MJPEG video compression and JPEG for still images. UPnP support makes the DCS-920 simple to add to your network, with automatic detection and IP address assignment.

D-Link bundles its D-ViewCam 2.0 camera management software with the DCS-920. The D-ViewCam software really enhances the camera's capabilities. It allows you to record video from your DCS-920 to your computer's hard drive. You can have the camera record at preset times and durations that you choose. If you wish, you can have it record whenever it detects motion, and even set it to send you an email alert letting you know something is happening at your monitored site. If you decide to extend your surveillance area, the software supports up to 32 compatible cameras, and lets you upload a floor plan with a layout of your camera locations for quick camera access.
