The AXIS 209FD network camera is designed to provide excellent surveillance capabilities while keeping a low profile. The camera is ideal for environments where a traditional surveillance camera may be disruptive to the design of a building or where discreet surveillance is required. The AXIS 209FD network camera has a very compact design. The flat body style of the camera allows it to be positioned very close to a wall where it will provide minimal intrusion into the environment and where it will not draw attention.

The AXIS 209FD network camera is also equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. PoE technology allows the camera to receive its power supply directly from its Ethernet connection, which eliminates the need to install connections to the electrical mains where the camera is located. This helps keep the camera even more discreet by minimizing the amount of cords. The camera, despite being only 4 cm (1.6 inches) in size, is very powerful.

The AXIS 209FD network camera is capable of sending two separate streams over the network in separate formats. The camera uses both MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG compression formats. This camera is also able to handle security protocols such as HTTPS encryption. The AXIS 209FD network camera is password protected and allows different users to be assigned different privileges on the device.
