MAC Compatible Internet Camera

MAC Compatible Internet Camera

Postby MacPro on Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:17 pm

I have noticed that MAC compatible Internet Cameras are hard to come by. Is there a manufacturer who is specific to MAC Internet Cameras? I would like to setup a few IP Cameras around my home but I only have a MAC PC and a PC is required by Internet Cameras. Can anyone please help me find a suitable IP Camera at a cheap cost?

Thanks in advance for all your help...

Hi Brock,

A PC is not required to run an Internet Camera however it is required to configure the Internet Camera.

Do you need IP recording software or will you just be viewing live video? Most Internet Cameras out there can be viewed in Quicktime so that will work with Macs. You will want to steer clear of Internet Cameras that require ActiveX.

Actually Wes, you are very incorrect. Many cameras require ActiveX controls which only runs in Internet Explorer. there is no firefox or Safari way to view the cameras that require Internet Explorer (which in my opinion, even for windows OS has got to be the absolute worst browser EVER MADE)

So yes, you do need a mac compatible, or more specifically a d Firefox or Safari compatible camera that doesn't rely upon the crappy IE ActiveX control technology.
