Milestone Systems

Milestone Systems, creators of open platform IP video management software including the Milestone XProtect network video management software application, has been chosen to ensure guest and customer safety for the Pan Pacific Hotels Group. The Pan Pacific Hotels Group made the decision to convert the existing analog video surveillance systems into an IP video surveillance network. The Milestone Systems XProtect software platform was chosen as the core of this solution due to the open platform design and Milestone’s IT approach to video surveillance. Pan Pacific Singapore was chosen for the initial analog to IP conversion with the project consisting of 250 cameras and a two-month period to complete the project. However, due to the reduced setup infrastructure of an IP video surveillance system, the project was implemented much quicker and more efficiently then initial anticipated.

Milestone Press Release Excerpts:
“One of the advantages with open IP technology is that you don’t need such a large physical space for your security operations as you do with purpose-built, proprietary analog installations. It’s a lot more modular today thanks to the independent network software approach,” explains Mark Fancourt.

“Milestone provides an IT approach that allows my users to easily interface with the system – PCs are their daily working tools. Controlling Milestone from the comfort of the PC was a dream come true, and the user friendliness of Milestone makes the whole process much simpler,” confirms Mr. Vinod, Director of Security at Pan Pacific Singapore.

Mark Fancourt concurs: “Milestone is simple to use. With no training I was able to use it immediately – very intuitive. When there is an incident, the security team can access the video footage quickly with a non-stop flow of evidence from camera to camera. Sharing information with law enforcement is also a simple process. In fact we are able to support third-party, real-time access to the surveillance, as we needed to for IMF in Singapore. The speed of availability is vastly different from analog systems, and quickly provides the necessary information for faster response. There are also alerts that trigger proactive actions to prevent situations from escalating. The software is well thought out and designed, easy to configure, maintain and use. It really is a great piece of technology.”

Since the initial implementation of Milestone System’s XProtect IP video management software, further hotel locations will be making the transition from analog video surveillance to IP network video surveillance. The next set of locations to implement IP network video surveillance includes Pan Pacific Seattle, the Pan Pacific Hotel Group’s corporate offices and Pan Pacific Serviced Suites in Bangkok. Thursday, January 14th, 2010

ACTi

The world’s largest steel maker, Arcelor Mittal, has installed a security system by SC Electro Universe SCM that utilizes ACTi network video surveillance products. Arcelor Mittal, based in Romania, holds the largest tubular factory in the world. The entire video surveillance system in managed from a centralized location and consists of ACTi IP camera and video server devices. The ACTi ACD-2200 and SED-2140T video server devices, along with the ACTi ACM-1431P bullet IP camera were chosen for installation with connection to a centralized management server. Video data is transmitted across the network via a fiber optic network with a total network length of approximately 10 kilometers. Wireless technology has also been utilized to help connect some of the IP camera video feeds into the surveillance network.

The application features areas with extreme temperature variations with temperatures ranging from -30 degrees Celsius in the winter to 60 degrees Celsius in the summer. Due to the extreme range in temperatures the ACTi SED-2140T was used in these specific areas. The SED-2140T is a temperature resistant video server designed specifically with these types of environments in mind.

ACTi Press Release Excerpt:
Manager from SC Electro Universe SCM has mentioned that, when selecting video servers for this project, we have tested many brands in the market and finally chose ACTi solutions, ”It is the State of ART” Technical Director Daniel said. Because of the excellent performance of ACTI equipments in very low lighting conditions and very reasonable price.

Vivotek Products Innovate Childcare Services via Daycare Webwatch

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
Vivotek Daycare Webwatch

Toronto based Daycare Webwatch is transforming traditional methods of childcare services and is giving parents added peace of mind when leaving their children in the care of others. Through the technology of IP network video surveillance and Vivotek IP network video surveillance products, Daycare Webwatch provides the ability for parents to monitor their children through live camera video feeds that are accessible to parents over the Internet. This added level of surveillance allows parents who have placed the care of their child to others the ability to check in on their child and obtain peace of mind knowing they can easily see what happens throughout the course of the day.

Currently, the Vivotek VS2403 video server devices are used to convert the existing analog surveillance cameras to digital video feeds that are then accessible locally on the local network and remotely via the Internet. The VS2403 provides a secure video feed to authorized users and also adds the capability of providing privacy masking. The VS2403 is also capable of handling motion detected events and will allow for alarm notification with pre and post event snapshots available for viewing. The Vivotek VS2403 will allow for up to four analog camera connections per video server. With the continued advancement in IP camera technology, Daycare Webwatch will soon be transitioning to a complete IP based solution with IP camera devices providing better image quality and higher frame rates than traditional analog surveillance cameras systems.

Vivotek Press Release Excerpt:
Daycare Webwatch, in less than ten years, has expanded their local business in Toronto to all of North America, with care centers ranging from San Diego, California to Orlando, Florida, and many locations in between. With the increased value proposition from using VIVOTEK products, Daycare Webwatch has prominently differentiated itself from its competition. “It is a very competitive business and any additional value-added service allows a childcare center to differentiate itself. If a parent is choosing between two centers and one has our viewing system, they choose our center every time,” says MacDonald.

Prosegur Tecnologia Chooses ACTi IP Cameras

Monday, January 11th, 2010

ACTi

Prosegur Group, a leading security service provider with a strong presence in Spanish speaking countries, has recently established a new office in Florida and decided to install ACTi IP camera network video surveillance devices to provide surveillance of this new office location. The installed system consists of 16 IP cameras ranging to include speed dome network cameras for monitoring big wide open areas, box style network cameras for monitoring fixed hallway and perimeter areas, as well as a combination of megapixel dome and bullet network cameras for monitoring the warehouse and outdoor parking lot areas. The entire network video surveillance system is configured within a LAN setup and operates as an isolated network.

ACTi Press Release Excerpt:
“We are very surprised by the quality and smoothness of the videos. These cameras are very reliable and we have never had any problem so far. The installation was also really easy and once the cameras are on, system is on.” said one of the engineers.

The ACTi CAM-6510 and CAM-6620 speed dome network cameras were installed in wide open areas where active monitoring is required. The PTZ capabilities of these speed dome IP camera devices allow for the entire area to be monitored through automatic camera patrolling or manual camera operation. For hallway and corner areas where a fixed view is the primary focus the ACTi ACM-5611, ACM-5711 and CAM-5221 box network cameras were installed. The ACM-5611 in particular allows for megapixel video resolution which will help provide clear and identifiable video images. The ACM-1231 megapixel bullet camera provides clear identification in the parking lot area and can help with the identification of vehicles and even vehicle licence plates. Finally, the warehouse area also utilizes the higher resolution capabilities of megapixel video resolution with the installation of the ACM-3401 and ACM-7411 dome megapixel network cameras. The entire system is controlled by onsite security staff and is administered through the SKYPOINT software application.
