The ability to remotely monitor security systems over the World Wide Web has greatly impacted the success of IP network cameras and the security and surveillance industry. However, the safe installation of outdoor IP cameras is proving to be a daunting task. The challenge comes from the sensitive internal electronics contained within IP cameras. Outdoor security cameras of the past did not contain such intricate internal mechanics and therefore did not require costly protective enclosures.

In an effort to mitigate the need for expensive enclosures, Toshiba has introduced their IK-WB80A, an outdoor IP camera designed with the harsh ruggedness of nature in mind. The IK-WB80A is engineered to withstand the strongest elements such as snow, freezing rain, sabotage and extreme temperature changes. Not only does its metallic casing adhere to the strict regulations of the IP66 International standards, it also eradicates the need to invest in any form of external protective housing. Security and surveillance professionals can rest assured that the IK-WB80A will provide the most advanced level of video security available while installed outdoors.

This IP camera was designed specifically with exceptional video surveillance capabilities in mind. Not only does it feature a Vari-focal lens with 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom it also utilizes a 2 megapixel CMOS image sensor. The 1600 x 1200 resolution is extremely beneficial in large outdoor locations as it will provide security administration with a widespread visual of the entire location instead of breaking the image down among several cameras. The IK-WB80A maintains its high-quality capabilities during both daytime and night time hours.

On January 13 of this year the Toshiba IK-WB16A IP network camera was awarded the iF Product Design Award. The award, presented by the iF International Forum, spans all elements of product design and acts as a podium to highlight innovations in design.

Those in the technology industry consider the award to be highly substantial, and the director of Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products has been quoted as saying, “Winning the iF design award validates Toshiba’s vision, value proposition and innovation,” he further went on to add, “The IK-WB16A and the wireless IK-WB16A-W are examples of Toshiba’s excellence in product design.”

As far as security cameras go, both home and businesses users will appreciate the smooth installation and high quality 2 Megapixel image capabilities of the IK-WB16A series. Not only does the camera facilitate the use of Pan, Tilt and Zoom technology, it also provides 1600 x 1200 resolution and a 3.2mm lens.

The IK-WB16A itself is available in the conventional network IP camera format that harnesses the capabilities of Power over Ethernet as well as the IK-WB16A-W format which utilizes a 12V DC power supply but offers wireless connectivity.

The no cost recording software, available with both camera types, enables users to record images from 16 cameras simultaneously. Additionally, each camera comes equipped with quad streaming MPEG4 and JPEG video, 2 way audio, exceptional 4x zoom and an attractive 3 year warranty.

Toshiba Surveillance and IP Video Products has become the next leader in the security industry to jump on the ever popular iPhone bandwagon. On December 8th, 2010 they introduced the world to a unique mobile viewing software designed to be compatible with the Apple iPhone, iPad and even the iPod Touch. The mobile viewer is designed to enhance the functionality of their already popular Surveillix® NVR video monitoring and recording software and is designed to provide those in the security field with mobile and real-time access to the Toshiba Surveillix video recorder.

Those wishing to explore the possibilities of the Surveillix NVR application can do so, at no charge, by visiting the App Store. As an added benefit, the application is well-suited for each of the existing Surveillix DVR and NVR models.

Wanting to prove that there really is an App for that, Toshiba cites the benefits of being able to access security and surveillance capabilities on any Apple touch interface as:

The distinct ability to view live stream of video from a mobile device.

The ability to utilize LAN or Internet technology.

The freedom to choose between a four camera split screen or hone in on a single camera.
